Alexander refers to the offer made to him regarding the office of Registrar.

In my opinion, the claim he has avowed is valid; and there is therefore no reason to sanction his receiving full salary for the office at the rate of £750 a year from the 1st of September 1854, up to the date at which he was confirmed in the appointment of Registrar on the reduced salary of £600 per annum.

J. Mercer, the Colonial Secretary.
