The first order I received touching those buildings, was on the 6th instant, when I was ordered to summon the Builder - Captain Cowper told me in the first instance, to notify Aching verbally that his walls were wrong - I told Captain Cowper that I had done so about a fortnight on my own responsibility, and he then ordered me to summon him - I sent the Chinese Contractor of Our Department, Assow, to give defendant verbal notice of the Contravention now charged.

A Chinese version of the Ordinance No. 8 of 1856 was issued, about a month after the Ordinance had passed – I consider, wherever I establish a contravention of the Ordinance, I am entitled to claim the confiscation of the Materials - in case of my obtaining Conviction in this case I have the Surveyor-General's orders to apply for the abatement.
