The Government of
Hong Kong was informed in reply in May 1847 that
the question
was under the
Consideration of the Government of India and that it was
in Contemplation to pass
a Law to authorize the reception
in the Straits Settlements
of Criminals transported
from Hongkong.
The Contemplated Law having been duly passed, as Act II of 1847, the necessary communication
on the subject
were made to
the Colonial Government
and
to the Authorities of the Straits Settlements in August
1847,
when enquiry
was also made of the local Authorities in the Tenasserim Provinces if arrangements could be made to receive Chinese
