covering statements of the particulars of the Bills drawn by their Lordships upon the Treasury.

2. In doing so, I am to state to your Lordship that in Lord Grey's opinion it will be impossible that the charge of relieving shipwrecked British subjects belonging to the United Kingdom should be drawn upon the Colony affording relief, but should be provided for otherwise than from the Funds of the United Kingdom itself. The Consuls of Great Britain are empowered to relieve at the expense of Great Britain, British subjects wrecked in foreign countries, and other civilized Governments, I am informed, observe a similar practice: the Government of Prussia has certainly repaid without hesitation the relief advanced in the present instance.
