Situated on a hill, the sides of which are so far cut away or terraced as to render the ground level, the existing building is inconvenient. It is a bungalow, without an upper story, and of no great size.

The present Magistracy is near the typhus fever hospital, which is visited more often daily by the Colonial Surgeon, and is well suited for the service of a Civil Hospital. It is proposed, therefore, to convert the present Magistracy into a civil Hospital, which will bring the institution more conveniently under the eye of the Colonial Surgeon, and provide proper accommodation for the patients which the present building is unable to supply.

I should here remark that the increase in the number of applicants at the Hospital is to be attributed solely to the growth of the population.

On the removal of the Hospital, the brow of the hill will be reduced, and a platform prepared for the rebuilding shown in the plan. This arrangement will be very acceptable to Justices and others, whose business takes them to the Police Courts, as there will be space on a much lower level than...
