I venture to recommend the insertion of the words "or Interpreter" in sections of the Act in Council, and, if amended, its extension by Ordinance. The present officers to be a favourable occasion! I could further suggest that a respectable Chinese mall, like Aring, in a willing to take the oath and become a British subject, is not less entitled to the benefit of such an arrangement as one whose sole claim to it is the accident of his having been actually resident here at the date of the session, and who finds himself there by invitation from Chinese to a British subject.
Or clause importing that all candidates, otherwise found eligible, shall be admitted, notwithstanding their former domicile in partiality, with effect this object, and get rid of creating undue expectations of favour or privilege.
In conclusion, I have to record my thorough adhesion to the Chief Justice's certificate of Arong's good demeanour out of the bout General sessions, without, however, adopting the qualification with which this Lordship has guarded it.
