Secretary N11/87/8
Enclosure P. 3 in
Minute by Attorney General
Sent from the Shelf
14 May
1856.
(Copy.)
Dir,
Attorney General's Office,
Hongkong, 15th May 1856
I am anxious to avail myself of the opportunity, which the preparation of the Draft of an Ordinance for regulating costs and fees affords, of securing to the Supreme Court the aid of a sufficient and respectable body of Interpreters :
I agree entirely with the Chief Justice, in the views expressed in his letter of yesterday, as to the incompatibility of the position of an Attorney Clerk with that of an Interpreter to the Court, and the inability of the Clerk's Office to certify to the Master, in such a case, to the "three years Service", too.
The Honorable W. T. Mercer,
Colonial Secretary.
