to accept the Office of Interpreter, that he shall be allowed to
Entirely Articled to an
Attorney during the period of his holding the official appointment, with a
view to his ultimate admission
as a
Attorney - I
think that the Acting Office of Interpreter would be incompatible with his
duties as an
Articled Clerk to an Attorney, inasmuch as he would
be unable to devote the whole
of his time to the discharge of duties, and the acquiring sufficient knowledge of the Law and its practice.
Such being my impression, it becomes unnecessary to consider the policy or impolicy of permitting "Clerk" to practice as an Attorney.
I do not hesitate to express my opinion that the precedent
would be a very dangerous
one.
I have, &c.,
(Signed) John Walter Hulme,
Chief Justice.
To His Excellency
The Colonial Secretary.
