As it is, the proprietors of the 18 Lots, in front of which the Troy should in the first instance be made, rejected the preferment, and requested to be allowed, through a deputation, to abandon the object altogether.

Being fully convinced of the general usefulness of a Praya, besides thinking it of great importance in preventing further illegal landing in the harbour the Marine Lot holders, and pouring, by its construction, greater facilities for landings (which are much needed) I hope that Government will not abandon the object, "the more so as the present purchasers of the lots in front of the Parade ground and Court House have already commenced constructing their portion of the proposed sea wall Rock.

7 afford some idea of the question, regards the Land obtained and for which no rent is paid, Sterndale, I have prepared the enclosed Return, which though not be minutely correct, but which, for sure, is not far from being so.

From this Return you will perceive: - 1. That the quantity of land leased to the Landholders is 261,396 square feet, for which they pay, at rates varying from 2d per square feet to 36d pence per 100 square feet, a total annual rental of say £1857. 2. That there are 18 individuals who have appropriated to themselves over 47,646 square feet of ground more than they have "title to, the annual charge for which, at average rate of the area held by them on Lease would be, say £2,100. – 3.
