With respect to the latter expedient, however, I have merely to say that should His Excellency be pleased to consign the hitherto unsullied Magistracy of this Colony to the felon's dock, I am prepared to obey and pray for the Criminal Court to command it. I am prepared to face and to court such an ordeal, if there be no other means left me to vindicate my outraged honour. I would willingly hope, however, that Her Majesty's Government will, in its wisdom, devise some means less objectionable to my feelings and more consonant with the dignity of the case.
