To The Honble I. W. Hulme

Chief Justice of Hong Kong.

We, the undersigned Barristers and Attorneys practising in Hong Kong, desire to convey to you the expression of our warmest sympathy under the circumstances in which we feel that, while supported by a consciousness of your own integrity, it may be gratifying to you to find the respect commanded by an unblemished career is not to be impaired by the scandal of an hour, however industriously propagated with whatever assumption of authority.

We do not desire, as we do not consider it necessary, to refer specifically to the charge with which you have been assailed, at a time when, still weak from illness, all your mental energies are daily taxed and cheerfully exerted in the fulfilment of the duties of your high and important office.
