Dear Sir,
In reply to your letter of Yesterday's date! I do most solemnly declare that when I had the pleasure of meeting you at the Governor's table on the 13th Ultimo you neither laid nor did anything to lead to the supposition that you were in the slightest degree intoxicated; the idea of such appears to me most preposterous.
