That His Excellency objects to instituting inquiries passed at his own table; that he has reason to believe the Executive Council would not consent to sit in judgment on the matter - that he must therefore leave yourself and the Attorney General to take such measures as each may deem necessary, and that all communications henceforward must be made officially through myself as Colonial Secretary.
