My "remonstrance" was a remark to him "well, laughing you are somewhat despotic. I mean, at Government House, you're the Supreme Court?" or some such words.

It has not been usual at official dinners to propose more than one toast on the Health of Her Majesty. I did not propose "The Queen and the Admiral" but "The Queen!" - and after a pause - I added "welcome to the Admiral" -

Nor did I leave the chair abruptly immediately after the toast had been drunk.

Just The Ladies quitted the Table immediately after.

It is my impression that the bottles were circulated round the Table twice or thrice after the Ladies had deserted -

I proposed that we should join them and take Coffee. I was not aware that the Table was quitted earlier than on similar occasions.

I did afterwards in the Drawing room and I believe I made a remark - not in a counsel of remark- "Eccentricity" but in good humour- that the Judge had been somewhat arbitrary - but the word I used respecting his Honour was not that he was "intoxicated" but "hilarious"
