Innofind would beg that no time be lost in selecting a fit Member of the kin for the post in question, as I am not altogether satisfied with the steps which, as the most convenient under the circumstances, I am finding myself temporarily obliged to take.
I have received two applications for the vacant office, one from Mr. Mitchell himself, and another from Mr. Kingsmill, a practising Barrister here, copies of which I forward herewith.
Mr. Mitchell lacks the necessary qualifications of a Barrister, but Mr. Kingsmill, I think, would fill the office with benefit to the Service, and satisfaction to the Public, if Her Majesty's Government have not already made their selection in anticipation of Mr. Hillier's retirement, and in accordance with my Despatch above quoted.
I am given to understand that Mr. Mitchell will resign his appointment if he be not confirmed in his Acting Office, and I beg therefore to remind you that in this event the office of Assistant Magistrate will be vacant, which, as I have already recommended, should be likewise filled by a Barrister on a Salary of £800.
