In accordance with the notice issued by Government on 17th March 1852, we are permitted to tender, how to receive, the notes of the Composition in payment of Government dues, but as provision is made by the Home Government for a separate column for Bank Notes in the Treasury Returns, and as there is little reference to it, and they are payable into Dollars, they have always been included in the Column assigned to Dollars.

The amount at present in the Treasury Chest amounts to $85860 #3860- the entire sum in the Treasury being £2949.11.7/s.

The three Despatches of Sir George Bonham, referred to in your Despatch, still remain unanswered.

In accordance with your directions, the practice of receiving the notes will be continued till receipt of further instructions.

I have the honour to be,

with the highest respect,

Your most Obedient, Humble Servant,
