the Building at present used for the Police Station is held on a lease which is about to expire, and offers have been made for the purchase of the present Station, but the sum asked was considered too high considering the state of the Building, and the Surveyor General was accordingly directed to prepare an Estimate for the construction of the proposed new Station on a piece of ground which had always been specially reserved for this purpose.

The Lease under which the present premises are held terminates on the 14th July 1857, and the new Station will be habitable by that date.

The other is a Police Station in the neighbourhood of the land sold in August and October last, where for want of proper protection the purchasers still hesitate to build. On the completion of this Building, it is proposed to hold other sales in this direction, where the land is much sought after by Europeans and Chinese, and where much valuable ground still remains to be disposed of.
