Some of them were firing, others were breaking into the Silversmith's shop. I did not see Alli fall, but I saw him lying on the ground, and I saw his house. I got up and went to his mother's house.

"Croes examined - We were fired upon.

Some as I saw.

A row they turned out. It was too dark to see how they were armed.

Re-examined - I mean we were fired upon as soon as we formed in a line across the street. The men had lights.

Meik Gholam Deen - Witness being sworn, stated - Jan and Sepoy in Mess "Jardines" playground. Corroborates the evidence of last witness.

Brother examined - Half of the men were inside the shop, and half were outside. I heard firing before I went down into the street.

Meeran - Chief Constable, witness being sworn, states - Between 9 and 10 o'clock on the night of the 17 January, I saw a boat off East Front. If Sergeant had sent me to take charge of the boat, I saw a large body of men wading through the water towards the Bazaar at Arroahmpor. The boat in which they were was about 21 yards from the Bazaar where the Silversmith's shop is. The men were armed and had lights. They had swords and guns. On seeing them enter the Bazaar, I gave the alarm. Believing them to be rioters, I fired at them.
