My house is situated on the left side of the province street, in the village. One part of the house is occupied by Leong Mysen. On the night of the 1st February, about half past eleven, the door of my house was forced open. The door had been bolted. Twenty-one or twenty-two men entered my house. They broke open a case in my shop and emptied it of silver ornaments worth two hundred dollars. They went into another room in another part of the house and stole more property (describes the stolen items). There was a light in this room and also in the shop. The burglars had torches and oil paper. The latter they set fire to some old clothes and about the counter. The burglars had also taken some pots, one of which they fired. Three men entered my bed-room, the room most spoken of as 'the inner room'. Most of the men who came into my house were armed with swords and spears.
I heard some ten shots fired near the door. When the men came into my bed-room, I went into the hall, and after the firing, I went out of the house at the back and called for Messrs. Jardine's watchmen. The burglars remained in the house. I found that Messrs. Jardine's watchmen had already come down. I identify all the prisoners except Issing Retin-Chea Ahooong (6) and Kan Mitre (8) as part of the gang.
I have known the 3rd prisoner for two months, and by sight for six months. The 4th prisoner lived in the village.
