are not to be built without any regard to the general security, though it is but fair to admit that in many cases considerable improvement has taken place in the construction of these latter, especially in those erected on ground moved by Europeans.
I am convinced that by the sale of the ground obtained by the levelling of Potters' Hill, His Excellency would not only obtain good premises, and add to the permanent revenue, but that he would supply a want greatly felt at present, namely localities for mercantile houses in the business part of the town; whilst the material thus furnished would facilitate and reduce the expense of filling up the ground to be converted into a public quarry.

As soon as the Streets, &c., at West Point are formed, and the two projected Police Stations commenced, Land in that locality will no doubt sell with advantage, and the progress of the projectors of a Dock Company will be aided in carrying out their designs;
The levelling of Potters' Hill would necessitate the erection by Government of a suitable building as a Hospital for the Police, in which might be made accessible to the general public, perhaps in Union with the Seaman's Hospital.
I believe His Excellency has also under consideration the establishment of a Sailor's Home, both institutions might perhaps be well treated at West Point; but the establishment of a Sailor's Home will not be a very...
