I regret that in this application I must further intrude on your and His Excellency's kindness, by asking to be permitted to draw here the half salary due to me during my absence, for obvious reasons. I have prepared the necessary authority in favor of Mr. L. Wiese, and the engagement of the respectable firm of Mess & Thomson will ensure Government against any loss in the event of my death. Mess & Thomson will demand the amount due for my Passage.
