OWN WAY ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SIXTH EXTRA RACE MEETING held at the Valley on Saturday, in bril- Hlant weather, for, with the exceptions of A SURPRISING TIME and DISTANT VIEW, favourites failed to head the field when the winning post was reached.
There was a very large attendance of racing en- thusiasts who were treated to some "excellent display of riding and close finishes.
Fields, on the whole, were fair-the majority of Dividends and cight starters. events attracting 'seven were, however, on the high side as, excepting Distant View, no winner paid less than $14. The highest was paid by Wonderful Scheme in the Lama Handicap when it re-. turned $92.90.
