shed in the Hongkong Government 52 Gazette No 19 of March 7 The amendments to the Hongkong Corps of Air Raid Wardens Ordinance 1946 are briefly, as follows:-

Supplementary Labour Schemes Of Govt. LONDON, Mar. (Reuter)

Italian prisoners of war are to work on the land in Britain, an- nounced Mr. Tom Williams, Par- liamentary Secretary to the | Ministry of Agriculture," address- ing Cheshire farmers at. Obester yesterday.

He stated that the Government had promised that between 2,000 and 3,000 would work on the land.

Their arrival would depend on the demand on British shipping but it was hoped that they would be available shortly.

Mr. Williams also revealed that supplementary labour schemes for agriculture were provided for the use" of elementary and public schoolboys and women of the Land Army and friendly aliens- the latter including, subject to aliens certain conditions, soms

Mr. Williams added that the present shipping position was in- finitely more desperate than 12 months ago and Infinitely worse than from 1914 to 1918.
