ANNIVERSARY OF POPE'S ELECTION: DEATHS OF WELL-KNOWN CATHOLICS

Tomorrow, March 2 is the second Anniversary of the election of Pope Pius XIL It is an election that will be long remember ed because of the rapidity with which it was concluded and the breaking of the precedent which was completely against the elec- tion of the Cardinal Secretary of State. The full agreement of the Cardinals as to the election of Cardinal Pacelli was echoed over the whole Church and it can rarely have happened that there was such universal approval of a Papal election.

It can rarely bave happened, too, that Catholics in such numbers in different parts of the Church had known the new Pope, lor no Cardinal had travelled so widely as he. His mis- sions as the Pope's representative brought him to many coun- tries, including the Argentine Republic," and in addition he had made an extensive journey by air through North America.
