Junior

of the Good, Secrated from the Office of Sheriff, to be held by the Stipendiary Magistrate

The Sheriff to be one of the leading members of the community, as at Singapore and other places, the Crown Solicitor being Under Sheriff

I am convinced, that in the altered circumstances of the Colony,

a Crown Solicitor has become an indispensable appointment, and I recommend his being given a Salary of £210 per annum, and that he be also made Coroner, with a fee of £5 on each Inquest held. I would abolish the office of Marshal of the Vice Admiralty Court, and cause its duties to be discharged by the Registrar of that Court, no personal supervision being requisite. I think that the

Registrar General should be a distinct officer from the Superintendent of Police, but not being practically acquainted with the duties of that Office (which I happen to be familiar with, as well as the others that I have enumerated), I merely throw out the suggestion for what it is worth.

(Signed) W. T. Bridges.

I have, &c.,

True Copy

Colonial Secretary.
