Bardia was well fortified by the Italians and an immense amount of material and labour had been put into it.

King Farouk Expresses Satisfaction Over The Victory In Bardia

It was announced late yesterday afternoon from London that ̈ following the fall of Bardia. BRITISH ADVANCE UNITS ARE NOW APPROACHING TOBRUK.

Yet within a few hours of the final assault, the defences fell into the hands of the British troops. The value of the booty which fell to the British will, it is estimated, into several million pounds.

In Egypt there is great, en- thusiasm over this second British victory against the Italians in a month.

The reported advance to Tobruk shows that the British mobility and power of attack has in no way abated by the whirlwind onslaught on Bardia.

COUNTER-ATTACK

The possibilities of a counter- attack were discussed by a military authority, in London yesterday. He said that any effective counter- attack can only come from Tobruk and Gen. Wavell would assuredly have taken precautions against such an eventuality.
