SEQUEL TO FOUR-DAY TSUN WAN BAY BLAZE: TEXACO FINED $250

THE FIRE AT TSUN WAN BAY ON NOV. 23 WHICH LASTED FOUR DAYS AND WHICH WAS FINALLY PUT OUT AT LAICHIKOK, had a sequel at the Court of the District. Offlcer, South, on Friday afternoon when The Texas Co. (China) Ltd., of No. 14, Queen's Road Central were summoned by Inspector S. Shepheard, District Super- intendent, South, on two counts of transferring petroleum into unlicensed lighters.

The summons read: "That you, being owners, on Nov. 23, 1940, at Tsun Wan Bay unlawfully did transfer your petroleum, having a flash-point of or below 150 deg. Fahrenheit, in an unlicensed Night- er No. 3433V contrary to section 7 of Ordinance 1 of 1873, Regulation. 162 (1), Government - Notification 236 published in Government Gazette 1340...

The second charge was in the same terms with the exception that the lighter in question was numbered 18Y.

Mr. W. A. Mackinlay appeared for the defence, and entered pleas of Not Guilty to both counts.

Inspector Shepheard, in evidence, stated that at 7 p.m. on Nov. 23,

Mr. Mackinlay submitted that he had no case tp answer as there. had been no mention of the Texas Co. during the whole of the case

he was called to a fire at Tsun Wan Bay. On arrival, he found lighter No. 3433V ablaze. The fire burned for four days and was case. finally extinguished at Latchikok Bay.
