MUSIC HALL · 1940:
CLEVER PRESENTATION AT CHINA FLEET CLUB
Harry Jordan & His Melody Makers The Star Turn: Eileen Grant Scores Hit
BY "PRUDENCE”
A great many clever people conspired over the production of the topical revue MUSIC HALL 1940, which opened at The China Fleet Club last night, but the result can be summed up in a single world. It was SUPERLATIVE.
It has "what it takes to please even the most blase audience, (and be it spoken with bated breath-Hongkong audiences are said. to be hard to please)-well, they should be more than pleased this time. They should be enthusiastic!.
i
Rumour has it that the A.D.C. had something in hand for Decem- ber, which they kindly postponed, in order to leave the stage free for "Music Hall." It so, they will feel rewarded by the knowledge that they gave place to something very well worth seeing.
Eresented by all ranks of The Hongkong Garrison, in aid of the British War Organisation and Bomber Fund, it had, perforce, to take place before the Troops went into camp, and It is an effort of. which the Service. can justly feel proud.

Much of the fun of the evening was provided by a most attractive "Compere" (RET "St. John) who had a great deal to endure. at the hands of Interrupters" of every kind-notably B. Ross, whose laudable, determination to tell the story of The Three Bears was con- sistently frustrated. I think Hong- kong should end in a round- robin, asking that he be allowed to finish it on the last night!
LATIN WISE-CRACKS Another great success was scored by St. John and Colquhoun, in a clever impersonation called “The Wanchai Brothers." Very topical, and full of the latest Latin wise- cracks. Z.B.W. please note this would make an excellent radio- turn, for one of our long winter" evenings!
