I have the honor to transmit herewith a Certificate from Doctor Gill relative to the State of my health, and to make application for three Months extension of my leave of absence.

In making this application I beg respectfully to state that nearly eighteen years in the Harbor Master's Department at Hong Kong with but very short absences during that period and I am fearful that a return to my duties at the expiration of my present leave, which would compel me to leave England on the 1st of January next, will be attended with great risk to my life.

I further beg to transmit duplicate Copies of the documents furnished me by the Government of Hong Kong when I obtained my present leave of absence.
