dissatisfied, and the Secretary of State, by way of softening his disappointment, has ordered his noted name to be placed on the list for employment hereafter.

I beg to annex the following report by the Colonial Treasurer of Mr. Hare's official conduct.

I, Robert Rienacker, Colonial Treasurer of Hong Kong, hereby certify, that Mr. John Hare has held the appointment of third Clerk in the Colonial Treasurer's Office since the 23rd February 1849, that during the time he has been in the Office he has performed the various duties assigned to him with diligence and fidelity, willingly and to the best of his abilities, to the satisfaction of the Head of his Department, he having been absent on account of ill health since the Department came under my charge. Neither suspension nor reprimand has been recorded or known against him.
