Official Letters had been received Since the 18th February, an
and 3rd April 1835, on which postage has been paid, And no demand made for postage
now claimed as due, until the bill
was sent in to me as above stated, and further the Postmaster had
waited until the departure of Captain commanded the Royal until the 26th April and left

a bill running
over two quarters.
under these circumstances
I was much surprised that the
Magistrate gave
an order
on the
Officer commanding Royal Artillery
for payment of the claim.
I now consider it my duty to bring
the case before you, in order to prevent
mal-appropriation of the Public
money.
I have laid a statement of this case before His Excellency Sir S. Bowring,
the Governor
of this Colony.
