Not long after the announce- merit of the Hongkong cameramen having obtained distinction in the Los Angeles Salon, they have again gained worldwide fame in the re-
cent Annual Overseas Competition, 1939-40, organised by the Ama-" teur Photographer of London.
In spite of the continuous trop. bles arising from the present war conditions, the number of compett- tors has increased in such an ex- tent as indicates that the amateur photographers are still carrying on their photographie arts as usual.

JUDGMENT WITH COSTS FOR THE DEFENDANTS, THE HONG-" KONG AND SHANGHAI HOTELS, LTD, was given in the Supreme Court yesterday by the Chief Justice. Sir Atholl MacGregor, at the conclusion, of the case in which the Commissioner for Executing the Office of Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom, claimed "£1,208 is. d. in respect of pension, passage home, pay and allowances and medical expenses for Commissioned Engineer W. A. Jones, who had to be invalided Home after a motor accident in the New Territories on July 24, 1938.
The case for the plaintiff was that the defendants were guilty of
negligence in that the car, which TIENTSIN
