According to an official report released for publication by the Superintendent of Imports and Exports the combined values of im- ports and exports of merchandise as declared during 'the month of April, 1940, totalled $131.2 millions (£81 millions) as compared with $106.6 millions (£6.5 millions) in April, 1939.

In terms of local currency the total visible trade of the Colony. Increased by 23.1 per cent. In April, 1940 as compared with April, 1939; and by 24.6 per cent. in terms of sterling.

Imports of merchandise in April, 1940 totalled $72.1 millions (£45 millions) as compared with $57.1 millions (£3.5 millions) in April 1939, and exports $59.0 millions (£3.6 millions) as compared with $49.6 millions (£30 millions);
