Dutch Ship Turns Back

Caught out at sea while pro- ceeding to Amoy, by Hitler's sudden Invasion of Holland, Bei- gium and luxemburg, a J. C. J. L- liner is now back again in Hong- kong, and has been in port ever since Saturday afternoon.

The captain of the Dutch, liner had received wireless instructions on the day of the new Naai ag- gressions, to turn his ship back to Hongkong, and there to awalt fresh orders.

Asked how far was the ship. when she was ordered back to port. and by whose authority it was done, responsible officials of the J. C, J. L. denied any know- ledge of this, and said that the captain of their ship had not divulged these particulars to them..

"There 13 possibility and some indications that the

ship will soon be able to proceed on her run," said an official of J. C. J. L

now.

Of her complement of passen- gers, some art "ashore

but few, if any, have availed them- selves of having their passage re- funded. It is understood that almost the full complement of passengers will be given passage on the same vessel, or another one belonging to the Company.

THE QUEEN MARY'S RECORD VOYAGE

7

LONDON, April 29 (By Air Mail) -Cape Town received its biggest thrill of the war when it awoke at dawn one morning early this month to see what King George V described as "the stateliest ship.in being," the 81,235-ton Queen Mary. steaming into. Table Bay.

The Queen Mary dropped-anchor after a record voyage of 12, days from New York. The previous re- cord was 19 days. Her arrival created a profound impression. throughout the country for within a few hours the news had reached places thousands of miles from Cape Town despite the silence of the newspapers. What Impressed South Africans most was that the Allies' mastery of the seas had enabled them to send the liner on such a long vorage without escort.
