| no allusion was made to that [heck] - that the "Alped" was a very roomy vessel capable, according to measurement of her three decks, of carrying more than the actual number of passengers she had on board, and that at all events her tonnage ought to have been calculated at her actual registered measure when she embarked her Passengers (it being presumed at 780 instead of 755 Tons). The Emigration Agent also stated that he only gave the Alped a modified "certificate not declaring full compliance with the provisions of the Superial Act" and that it was "explained to those concerned that this certificate conferred no protection whatever at the Port of debarkation, and that every Passenger beyond the Parliamentary number was carried at their own risk!".
As by the Act of last session (18+19 Vic. cap 104) Chinese Emigration is withdrawn from
