Mr. Malcolm MacDonald, Secretary for the Colonies, if, in view of the proximity, of the independent protected state of Sarawak to a British possession in the East and Its strategie importance, he with inform the House in regard to the recent deposition of the Rajah Muda and the resignation, some months earlier, of five members of the Chil Service, including the Chief Secretary, Financial Secre tary, Chief Justice and Principal Medical Officer.
Mr. MacDonald, in reply, said that the relations of His Majesty's. Government with the State of Sarawak were governed by the Agreement of 1888, under which Sarawak was recognised to be an Independent sovereign state, in the internal affairs of which His Majesty's Government had no au- thority to interfere, except for the limited purposes mentioned in. the agreement.
In these circumstances, Mr. Mac- Donald was, of the opinion that it would be improper for him to make any comment on the facts refer red to in the question.
