H.K. Volunteer Defence Corps Officer Charged: Sequel To Boy's Death
LIEUT. THOMAS PARKINSON, 51, Quartermaster of the Hong- kong Volunteer Defence Corps, appeared at Central Court before Mr. R. Edwards yesterday on a charge of unlawfully killing Wong Chit- lan, a nine-year-old boy, while driving his car along Bonham Road on December 23.
Parkinson, who appeared in Court attired in military uniform, is represented by the Hon. Mr. Leo d'Almada, Jr., instructed by Mr. D. Strellet. Mr. E. H. Williams, Crown Counsel is conducting the case for the prosecution.
Evidence was given by Wong Shi, grand-mother of the deceased, who said the boy seldom went out and was normally very careful when walking in the streets. Before crossing a street, he would look both ways for passing cars.
The next witness called, Dr. Ling Ke Dieb, of the Queen Mary Hos- pital, said he saw defendant an December 23 at the Hospital at 5.30 pm. Parkinson had three injuries on his head-a scalp wound, a' cut on the right side of the chin and Bawelling over the left side of the forehead."
