Outposts

HELSINKI, Feb. 3 (Reuter) Soviet heavy artillery pounds the Mannerheim Line with unrelieved ferocity as the new "large-scale offensive is reaching its maximum effort.

Object of the new Russian drive is the smashing of the Mannerheim Liñe at its southern end with a view to the capture of Viborg (Vlipuri), but the Finns, while their out- ports have been driven in, are holding on stubbornly.

Important part of this intensive warfare is being played by the So viet Air Force, which comes over in formations or 150 machines at

a time.

It is confirmed that five Red planes were shot down, and three others are reported to have been destroyed.
