the same before the Board of Ordnance, you will signify to them His Lordship's wish to be informed whether they are enabled to state from any reports made to them by their Officer at Hong Kong on the subject,

that the premises in question are advantageously situated with a view to the purposes to which it is proposed to appropriate them, so as to justify an offer on the part of Her Majesty's Government of the sum (£500) which the Acting Governor suggests, and also what is the nature and what the probable cost of the defensive works proposed,

which the Board would recommend to be erected thereon.

I am directed by the Board of Ordnance to transmit for the information of Lord Panmure the copy of a Report from the Assistant Inspector General of Fortifications on the subject in question.
