PUT INTO CIRCULATION

the first local A new One Dollar banknote, fiduciary issue to exhibit the portrait of His Majesty King George VI, has been put into circulation by the Hongkong Government.

The new" note is similar in size, design and colour as the old notes except for the use of the present King's portrait instead of that of the late King George V and for the difference of signatures.

In the present issue, the signature appearing is that of the Financial Secretary. Hon. Mr. Sidney "Caine, while the signature in the old issue is that of Mr. Edwin Taylor, C.M.G., former Colonial Treasurer.

Only a limited number of the new notes have been issued, $100,000 worth having been issued through the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation a few days ago.

Further notes will be released from time to time, The while the old notes will be gradually recalled. Government, however, has not fixed any date for such recall.

- The appearance of the new One Dollar note in the market has been somewhat of a surprise, as no official intimation had previously been given.
