GAMBLING CONCESSIONS PROFITABLE

IN MACAO

Evidence that gambling conces alons are profitable business in Macao is shown in the increased royalties offered for the franchise to operate fan-tan in the Portu- guese Colony.

The franchise, at present held by Mr. Fu Tak Iam in the name of the Tal Hing Company, was further renewed this week for a period of three years at an annual royalty of $1,900,000, compared with

$1,820,000 as paid at present.

The same party also recently obtained the right to operate po- piu lotteries in Macao:

Tenders for both franchises were many, and included many re- ceived from well-known Hongkong business men..
