Poppy Day, 1939
WORK OF BRITISH LEGION FUND EXTENDED
It will be recalled that several days ago the announcement was made in London that all schemes previously adopted for the British Legion Find had been devoted to the assistance of partitipants in the last war, but thist now these schemes will be for those in any war, meluding the present.
Since the Poppy Day Fund was Inaugurated in 1921, more than £7,500,000 has been collected and
last the amount raised
year amounted to £578,000. It is hoped, that owing to the added burden necessitated by the pre- sent condici, the Colony's con- tribution will be as generous as possible.
It is announced, that His Majesty the King has sent a donation of £100 to the Poppy". Day Fund Appeal in London, and His Excellency the Gover nor has opened the Colony's contribution with a donation of $100.
The street sales of Popples this year will be held on November 10 instead of November 11 so as to
afford all members of the public a convenient opportunity of con- tributing which otherwise they might not have owing to Armistice Day being a holiday.
In the absence of any formal ceremony at the Cenotaph, wreaths may be laid privately, and the public are advised that Flan- ders Popples will be сп sale through the British Legion for those desiring to lay Poppy Wreaths...
