A CROWD NUMBERING, IT IS ESTIMATED, NO LESS THAN 10,000, both within and without the Caroline Hill stadium, wit nessed the season's first big senjor League soccer clash yesterday afternoon when the South China "A" entertained Exsterni Athletic Association.
Few expected Eastern to win. but no one who had noticed the younger club's spirited showing this year could have been unpre- pared for a close and exciting tussle. The score, 2-1 in favour of South China, bore out many prophecies.
FAIRLY EVEN PLAY
Play in the first half was fairly even, positions being well guarded by either side, while, opportunities for attack that were open to both were equalled well-spoiled.

WOUNDING CHARGE TURNS
TO MURDER
Another murder Case Was brought before the Court on Saturday. The defendant con- cerned was a 54-year-old un- -employed named Yip Kul. He was alleged to have murdered his daughter-in-law.
Yip was originally charged with malicious wounding his daughter- in-law, Lo Chuen-lam, and his son, Yip Man, on Friday at No. 79, First
of Street. The charge wounding was withdrawn and the present one was substituted be- fore the defendant appeared" be- fore Mr. T. J. Houston at the Central Court Inspector O'Donovan informed the Court that Lo Chuen-lam had succombed to her wounds on Saturday morn- 'Ing.
