The market was quiet

COTTON: The general demand advanced prices easily and the market was strong technically. Hedging was small on prospects that a Government cotton would become mandatory at 8.30 cents. Stocks held abroad are not large and are easily to be worked off. Any buy- ing replenishment will result in much higher prices, We would favour accumulation of May option.

WHEAT: News that Germany air raid on Capital of Scotland was promptly reflected in higher wheat prices, accompanied by ex- tensive short covering. Large supplies have apparently been dis- counted and the prospect of prolonged hostilities would be certain to intensify the demand and raise prices appreciably; The continu- ance of drought in South-west is also a helpful factor.
HIDES: The strength of the market was timed with the firm- ness of stocks, Packers are reported to sell at advances of prices. Commission Houses were the largest buyers,
