The annual general meeting <! the Kowloon Chess Club was held at the Peninsula Hotel yesterday, the President of the Club, the Rev, G. E S.-Upsdell, being in the chair, There were 15 members present.
The annual report presented for the season 1938-39 shoved that the present membership of the Club was 35. The statement of accounts, for the year showed a credit balance of $187.81.

FATHER OF THE FLEET Admiral Bir. George P. King-Hall, who died in his ninetieth year, was the second officer on the seniority List of Admirals who had retired from the active list of flag officers. The officer senior to him, who may be re- garded as the Father of the Fleet, 18 Admiral Albert Baldwin Jenkings, who was 33 in March, and who entered the Navy on September 13, 1858. He was Commander of the Inferible, Lord Fisher's ship, at the bombardment of Alexandria in 1882:
