H.E. THE GOVERNOR SEES cards that the Portuguese may PORTUGUESE WIN PAIRS TITLE LAST SUNDAY

(BY JACK HY)

By beating the Kowloon Football Club last Satur- day in their last match this season, the Hongkong Football Club won the Second Division champion- ship and have thus earned a promotion to the First. They have ended the season just one point ahead of their closest rivals, the Taikoo R.C. who also won their remaining match.

Only a miracle can prevent Recreio" "A" from retaining the First Division championship which they won for the first time last year. I cannot see how they can ever lose it as they have but to win, nay to tie, one of their four Temaining matches to put the other clubs out of the reach of the title."

They not only won last Saturday against the Kowloon Bowling Green, but the gap between them and their nearest rivals has been considerably widen- ed as the result of the defeat of the Kowloon C.C. at the hands of the Indians.

At Sookunpoo, the Indian thereafter the latter fell off and R.C. avenged their earlier finally lost by eight shots. Dick defeat this season by beating Basa led M. R. Abbas by 9-7 on the Kowloon C.C. by ten the 11th head but a single follow- shots: It will be recalled ed by a four on

that on the former occasion, it was solely Frank Good- win's overwhelming win over Ä. K. Minu that carried the K.C.C. to victory as the other two skips were down.

FINE BOWLING

History very nearly repeated it- self last Saturday as Goodwin (who was again drawn against A. K. Minu) was the only K.C.C. skip to win. He started of very well Indeed by scoring a six on the very Arst head followed by a single and a five.

The six was the result of a very fine piece of bowling on the part of Goodwin who, with Minu lying

the next two heads gave the Indian skip the lead.

The second match, to be played on Sunday, will see the visitors against the Chinese Federation. This game, however, will be robbed- much of its interest, as it is re- ported that South China will not be back until September 28 or 29.

The third game on Wednesday will be against the Rest of the Colony. The latter team will not have the services of Service Police players and will be com- posed mainly of players drawn from civilian Clubs.
