New U.S. Blow At Japan: £83,000,000 Trade In Peril
United States may now stop buying gold and silver from Japan, following President Roosevelt's" decision to end the trade treaty next January. Japan would suffer a serious blow. She sold £83,000,000 in gold and £840,000 in silver in the last two years,

Mr. Cordell Hull. U.6. Secretary of State, said recently that there must be a settlement of political differences with Japan be- tore a new treaty is negotiated.
He indicated that "greater respect for American rights and interests" was one of the questions requiring fresh considera- tion.
Ending of the Treaty is regarded in Washington as President Roosevelt's way of obtaining peace in the Far East by "méthods short of war."
New US tariff duties are expected to cancel out Japanese subsidies.
Enforcement of the Neutrality Act against both Japan and China is being discussed in Washington.
This would cut off all munitions to both countries.
