THORNYCROFT'S BUILD PATROL LAUNCH FOR PALESTINE POLICE DEPT.
4.
For the service of the Palestine Police Department, Thorny- croft's have recently completed a twin-screw Diesol engined vessel. The boat will be used for coastal surveillance duties, the inter- ception of smugglers and patrol, work generally.
Fifty feet in length with a beam of 106, the boat is built of double-skin teak planking on elm frames, the decks being also of double skin teak. Muntz metal is used for sheathing the hull. The stout construction throughout is very impressive and leaves no doubt that the craft will be cap- able of many years of hard ser- vice.

Motorists were slightly more lawabiding last year than in 1937, according to the annual Home Office return of "offences relating to motor vehicles" but it still appears that approximately one driver in nine is in trouble with the police every year.
Cases dealt with by written warning or by prosecution num- bered 488,344; the total of licensed drivers at the end of 1038" was about 4,250,000
