I am directed by the Lords of the Committee of Privy Council for Trade, to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 12th October transmitting by direction of Secretary Sir William Molesworth, copy of Despatch No.106 of the 28th July 1853 from Her Majesty's Plenipotentiary in China with reference to the Treaty recently concluded between Her Majesty and the Emperor of Japan and in which he states that although instructed to publish its provisions he had not received any official copy of the Treaty.
In reply to your communication I am directed to state to you for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies that their Lordships have caused a letter to be addressed to the Earl of Clarendon stating that they consider
