Shanghai, July 20 (Reuter). The market opened at Sd. and U.S.$91 and as no support forthcoming from early in the morning, buyers appeared for August delivery, making the rate for this delivery weak,
Soon afterwards, the difference between cash and August widened to a halfpenny and as August buyers were willing to take what- ever rate was offered, the market became generally weak, with an absence of selling for August.
Business is being done at present at 4-13/184. and U.S.39) for cash and 418. and U.S.$9 for July, while August is still very difficult to ob- tain.

Sliver prices were unchanged yesterday, the quotations remain- lag at 16.3,4 for Ready and 16. 3/16 for Forward, Silver advices reported India as having bought,; and speculators as having sold. The market closed quietly steady with buyers at the fixed rate American Silver was quoted at Adams Express 343/4 for Spot.
The London/New York cross-rate was quoted at 488.25. New York London was quoted at 468.5/16.

The market opened 1/16 of a cent higher for all deliveries as compared with Tuesday's closing quotations.
In accordance with conditions prevailing in London and New York the market ruled quietly steady throughout the day,
A notable feature was the good demand from New York for im- mediate and near deliveries, but dealers and speculators observed a more cautious attitude due to less favourable reports on the inter- national political situation.
Furthermore, uncertainties with regard to the approaching quota-announcement by the IRR. Committee exercised a restraining Influence upon speculative activity. Consequently only moderate volume of business for more distant deliveries was transacted, whilst price-fluctuations were confined to a very narrow range.
